<yandex:full-text>
Economist Hrant Mikaelyan questions Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Armenian goods can be exported to the European Union countries instead of the EAEU market.

Speaking to Aysor.am, the economist assessed such statements as anti-crisis political propaganda.

“It is clear that the voter is suffering quite serious losses from these restrictions and Nikol Pashinyan needs to maintain his voter base. That is why he is now saying anything so that these people continue to support him,” he noted.

Mikaelyan also recalled other statements by the Prime Minister and gave an example of Georgia’s experience, noting that during the years of the Russian-Georgian economic conflict, the country was unable to find full-fledged replacement markets:

“Pashinyan was saying that ‘he built 3 nuclear power plants without declaring about it’, that we would have our own gas, he probably meant Azerbaijani. All this will not happen. We already have the experience of Georgia. Georgia has never found a new market. For 7 years, Saakashvili has been involved in an economic war with Putin. They have neither found a new market nor compensated people. It’s just that the Georgian peasant has suffered huge losses and deprivations due to Saakashvili’s adventurous policy, and the same will happen here.”

Touching upon the topic of possible compensation by the government, Mikaelyan noted that, in his assessment, numerous promises made during the pre-election period are aimed at gaining the support of voters.

According to him, the agricultural sector may suffer the most if export problems continue, and thousands of families working in that sector will also feel its consequences.

Speaking about the European Union market, he emphasized that the EU has strict entry requirements, standards, as well as various restrictions. “The European Union market is quite closed. Even those countries that have association agreements with the EU, for example, Ukraine, Georgia, have received access in limited volumes,” the economist added.

Mikaelyan noted that even in the conditions of political support, it is difficult to expect that the EU will create exceptional conditions for Armenian products.

“Even if there are certain purchases, they cannot completely replace the volumes that are currently directed to the EAEU market. People may think that in order to support Pashinyan and achieve their political goals, the EU will make an exception. But it will not. For example, Ukraine, which is even waging a war for them, has not been made an exception. It may be in very small quantities. For example, if people need to sell 10 tons, the EU can buy 500 tons,” the economist concluded.

Referring to the restrictions imposed by the Russian Federation, Pashinyan announced:

“In the near future, we have export proposals related to roses, fruits and vegetables. The bad news is that the volumes of our products are not very large. A normal European supermarket chain will consume our products at once, but at the same time I want to draw attention to the following circumstance. We produce peppers – one hundred tons, we should not export 90 tons in one direction, but 25 – in one, 25 – in the other, in the next stage we should make it 20 tons, so that it has 5, 6, 7 directions.

Independence is the replacement of dependence on a few with dependence on many. If you are 90 percent dependent on one place, one day they may wake up and the mood will not be good. Pepper spoils, I will give the money for that pepper, if a rose spoils, I will give the money, but pepper exports will also grow. I will stand up for pepper, you stand up for peace.”
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he does not see a problem in Russia’s decision to restrict the export of certain goods from Armenia.

“Let them not make us choose between pepper and the state. Yes, pepper, roses, and apricots will grow in Armenia, and exports from Armenia will double, including to the EAEU countries,” he stated in Tsovinar.

According to him, parts of the opposition are encouraging Russia to impose export bans in order to influence public opinion.

“This people is not a people who would trade pepper for their homeland,” he said.

Pashinyan also noted that he is the only EAEU official participating in both main EAEU governing bodies:

“I have sufficient leverage that, if I earn your trust after the elections, I will go and resolve the issues on the spot.”

At the same time, he emphasized that he does not intend to escalate disputes with Russian counterparts and will continue to maintain friendly relations.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
The EU leadership, according to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, has intensified efforts to push the Russian Orthodox Church out of Armenia, demanding that Yerevan completely sever centuries-old religious and spiritual ties with Moscow, TASS reported.

“Euro-antichrists have targeted the Russian Orthodox Church in Armenia. According to information reaching the service, the EU leadership has aggressively begun to push the Russian Orthodox Church out of Armenia. As a mandatory condition for European integration, the Armenian authorities are being asked to completely sever centuries-old religious and spiritual ties with Moscow,” the report states.

According to the same report, EU representatives are also attempting to restrict the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church diocese in Armenia, including limiting its access to church property and obstructing its engagement with the Armenian Apostolic Church.

                                <yandex:full-text>
Starting June 3, 2026, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) will introduce temporary restrictions on the import of celery, eggplant, potatoes, and dried fruits originating from and shipped from Armenia. The measure also applies to the transit of these products to Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states, citing the absence of mechanisms to confirm the entry of quarantine goods into destination countries.

The restrictions will remain in place until an appropriate verification system is developed to ensure the safety and traceability of the transported products.

“The situation once again confirms that the Ministry of Economy of Armenia has structural problems and is unable to fully fulfill its mandate to control agricultural producers.

Following structural reforms implemented in 2019, Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture was dissolved and its responsibilities were transferred to the Ministry of Economy. The ministry is currently responsible for agricultural policy, processing, livestock farming, veterinary services, crop production, pesticide and agrochemical regulation, organic agriculture, agricultural cooperatives, and fisheries,” the news release reads.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, has claimed that the Armenian authorities are not informing citizens about the potential consequences of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union.

According to Volodin, if Armenia withdraws from the EAEU, “gas prices for residents could increase almost fourfold, remittances from Russia could decline sharply, labor migration privileges could be abolished, and supplies of Armenian products – including fruits, vegetables, alcoholic beverages, and mineral water – could be suspended.”

“The same thing happened in Ukraine. When the decision was made on integration with the EU, people were told one thing. In practice, Ukrainian agricultural products never fully gained access to European markets,” he said.

According to the Speaker of the State Duma, Armenia could face a similar situation.
“It is likely that Pashinyan has made a personal commitment to bring Armenia into the European Union and is now carrying it out. At the same time, he is attempting to shift all associated costs onto the EAEU and Russia,” Volodin stated.

“It is obvious that he is not concerned about the fate of the Armenian people or the statehood of Armenia. He believes that this course will help preserve his personal power. The price will be high...” Volodin said.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
The pre-election campaign in Armenia has entered an active phase, with major political forces intensifying efforts to mobilize their electoral base, political technologist Vigen Hakobyan said in an interview with Aysor.am.

According to him, the current political landscape is characterized by uncompromising competition, with each force seeking to emphasize its advantages and strengthen influence over target voter groups.

Hakobyan noted that 4-5 political forces have a realistic chance of entering the next parliament.

He stated that the ruling Civil Contract party is expected to pass the electoral threshold, but is unlikely to secure a parliamentary majority on its own.

“Surveys show that Civil Contract will enter parliament, but will not gain 50+1,” he said.

According to him, the Armenia bloc, Strong Armenia, Prosperous Armenia, and Wings of Unity also have parliamentary ambitions.

He added that different political forces are targeting distinct segments of the electorate: while the Armenia bloc appeals primarily to voters with more radical positions, Strong Armenia focuses on broader audiences, emphasizing socio-economic development, industrial policy, and long-term national vision.

Hakobyan stressed that voter turnout could play a decisive role in the election outcome.

“If turnout is indeed close to 60 percent, as sociological surveys suggest, I believe the current authorities will have no chance of reproducing themselves. The key issue now is ensuring participation,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of voter activity in Yerevan, where more than 840,000 voters are concentrated. According to him, this is why many opposition forces are focusing not only on presenting programs, but also on encouraging citizens to go to the polls.

Commenting on the broader electoral environment, Hakobyan said the legitimacy of elections should be assessed not only on election day, but across the entire pre-election period.

He pointed to reports of arrests, detentions, and heightened political rhetoric, which he said raise concerns about the fairness of the electoral process.

The political technologist also stressed the widespread use of administrative resources:

“During this period, we have seen numerous arrests, detentions, pressures, threats from the head of government: ‘to crush, to imprison.’ His rhetoric has exceeded the standards he has maintained over the past eight years, and is seen as a direct threat that fosters a climate of fear. In this regard, questions are already being raised about the legitimacy of the elections.”
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
As a result of joint efforts by the Investigative Committee of Armenia and the police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, circumstances have been established in a criminal case initiated on the basis of a report of an alleged crime concerning the activities of A. A., a supporter of the “Strong Armenia” party.

According to the investigation, since September 2025, A. A., as the founder and director of the public organization “Our Way – Protection of National Values,” allegedly employed approximately 1,400 citizens under fictitious civil contracts. Some of these individuals were also employed in other companies.

Investigators further allege that between October 2025 and March 2026, approximately 1.6 billion drams, 230,000 euros, and 75,000 US dollars were transferred to the organization’s accounts from entities associated with S. K., including the Tashir charitable foundation, Intego Energy, and Tashir Capital, registered as donations and loans.

According to the investigation, these funds were allegedly used to launder criminal proceeds and to provide financial incentives for citizens to participate in rallies and protests organized by supporters of S. K. and the “Strong Armenia” party.

It is also noted that most of the employed individuals did not actually perform work duties, but instead visited offices intermittently or did not work at all. As a result, investigators estimate that approximately 763 million drams were paid out as salaries and other benefits.

During the investigation, numerous procedural actions were carried out and around 500 individuals were questioned.

A public criminal prosecution has been initiated against A. A. under charges related to financial incentives for participation in public gatherings and large-scale money laundering. He has been detained pending pre-trial proceedings.
</yandex:full-text>

This was stated by Dmitry Leonov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Rusprodsoyuz, in comments to TASS.

Earlier, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) announced temporary restrictions on the import of cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, and grapes from Armenia, effective June 2, 2026.

“Importers will be able to increase supplies from alternative countries, as existing logistics chains are already adapted for a rapid switch between different suppliers,” Leonov said.

According to him, Armenian grapes could be replaced by imports from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Egypt, India, and China. Cherries may be sourced from Serbia and Moldova, nectarines from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Egypt, India, and China, and peaches from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia.

Leonov also noted that Armenian fruits and stone fruits account for only a small share of Russia’s total imports. “Therefore, restrictions on their import will not have a significant impact on overall supply volumes,” he said.

“The Russian fruit and vegetable market is highly diversified, allowing it to quickly adapt to changes in product availability and assortment,” Leonov added.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
The issue of Armenia remaining in the Eurasian Economic Union or joining the EU should be decided by the people, as it stems from constitutional requirements, political analyst Hakob Badalyan said in an interview with Aysor.am.

He reminded that official Yerevan has previously stated several times that if the need for a decision arises, the issue will be resolved through a referendum or an electoral process.

According to Badalyan, the latest statements by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should be viewed within the framework of pre-election logic.

“I think that everything is now within the framework of pre-election logic. Nikol Pashinyan is trying to use the European Union topic for a political game – on the one hand, to maintain the pro-European electorate, and on the other hand, to ensure the loyalty of European political circles,” he noted.

The analyst does not believe that the current authorities are actually leading Armenia toward full EU membership.

Regarding public attitudes toward leaving the EAEU, Badalyan noted that it is impossible to give a clear answer without a referendum or impartial sociological surveys. He added that while a significant part of society has a positive attitude toward EU membership, the exact percentage remains unclear.

According to the political analyst, many people view the European Union as attractive from the outside, but are not sufficiently informed about its internal complexities. He noted that the EU appears different from the inside and that its internal situation is not uniform, which complicates public perception.

Referring to “either-or” narratives, Badalyan stated that such framing is mainly promoted by Russia and the EAEU.

“They are trying to use these emphases to raise the price of their interests in Armenia’s pre-election process and to address their own strategic concerns. I think that after the elections this issue will take on completely different shades and emphases,” he concluded.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced today that Armenia will work in the EAEU until the moment when making a choice between the EAEU and the EU will no longer be inevitable.
</yandex:full-text>

“After yesterday’s debate on Public Television, I received numerous responses of satisfaction and encouragement, as well as phone calls.

I did not say anything beyond what is already present in the political agenda of the Prosperous Armenia Party, in the speeches of our political team, and in the ‘Proposal to Armenia’ program.

It is on the basis of political programs that we have revealed the political bankruptcy and exhaustion of Nikol Pashinyan’s team, the Civil Contract.

The Civil Contract members, having failed politically, have been constantly directly or indirectly threatening the people with repression and various negative scenarios in the pre-election period over the past ten days.

It seems that the Civil Contract administration or faction has become a center for ‘programming’ repression and negative developments.

During the last week of the campaign, the losing government will resort to any meanness and immorality, and we must be ready for different scenarios and face every challenge.

This is an important mission not only for the Prosperous Armenia Party and the opposition, but also for our society, on the path to closing this shameful page of humiliation and misery.

Supporting young people and ensuring equal access to education remain key responsibilities for the Bank.

The initiative aims to ease the social challenges faced by Artsakh students and their families who are living in difficult circumstances.

“This is a very important initiative for Byblos Bank Armenia. It will help create a stable environment for young people to master their chosen professions, launch and grow their careers. It will allow students to focus on their education at this important stage of their lives and find better opportunities to achieve their goals,” said Hayk Stepanyan, CEO of Byblos Bank Armenia.

“We highly appreciate the support provided by Byblos Bank Armenia to students who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and enrolled at GSU. Initiatives like this encourage the youth of Artsakh, strengthen hope and optimism for the future and inspire them to pursue knowledge with determination, become qualified specialists and fulfill their aspirations,” noted Ruzanna Hakobyan, Rector of Gavar State University.

Education is one of the key pillars of Byblos Bank Armenia’s corporate social responsibility strategy. The Bank actively cooperates with universities and other educational institutions, with a strong focus on creating long-term impact.
</yandex:full-text>

The head of the inspection body has already started negotiations,” Anush Harutyunyan, Head of the body’s Information, Consultation and Public Relations Department, told Aysor.am.

Rosselkhoznadzor announced that from May 30 it is temporarily imposing restrictions on the import of a number of agricultural products exported from Armenia, including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens, and strawberries.

The Russian side justifies the decision by citing frequent phytosanitary violations and the assessment that the Armenian side has not taken sufficient measures to address previously identified problems. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, 181 cases of violations were recorded in 2026 alone.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
Political analyst Beniamin Matevosyan considers it possible that Russia will suspend or increase the gas tariff for Armenia.

“After all, they are the owners of all this and, depending on the positions of the Armenian authorities, they can review economic relations with Armenia, which is happening,” the political analyst said in an interview with Aysor.am.

According to Matevosyan, this is an accepted option in the world: “Look at how Donald Trump is reviewing economic relations with the EU in all areas – from supplies to energy exports, and even to agricultural products. Since the EU is no longer perceived as an ally in the US under this administration, they are being treated accordingly. The same is now happening in our case. Russia is not inventing anything new.”

As for alternative energy sources, the expert noted: “We are currently receiving gas and other energy resources from Iran, but due to production volumes and quality, Iran cannot fully replace Russia. However, Nikol Pashinyan does not need this, because he wants to make Armenia dependent on Azerbaijani energy sources.”

Matevosyan also referred to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “we will have our own gas,” calling it nonsense. “That does not even stand up to basic calculations. Starting from 2024, Gazprom Armenia will purchase 150 billion drams worth of gas from Russia and distribute it in Armenia, while we will not receive that 150 billion in transit revenues, which would fall under the TRIPP framework. This person is simply lying – he wants us to buy gas from Azerbaijan and become dependent on it in terms of energy.”

On whether Azerbaijani gas would be cheaper than Russian gas, the expert said: “Even if it is cheaper, if you buy it and make yourself dependent on Azerbaijani energy carriers, you are giving Azerbaijan a tool of political pressure. Azerbaijan can say: fine, do you want gas at Russian prices? Then, for example, 300,000 Azerbaijanis must come to Armenia by the end of the year. This is the core problem.”

Matevosyan emphasized that recent statements both from Armenia and Russia are not accidental: “The Russian Federation clearly shows that it will not work with Nikol Pashinyan as the leader of the Republic of Armenia. Whether it will work with Armenia depends on the outcome of elections. As for Armenian statements, they have returned to their basic logic. Just recall what Nikol Pashinyan said about the people of Artsakh and Russia in 2008. He also wrote an article in the early 2000s titled ‘We and Our Interests,’ where he argued against a corridor through Armenia that would benefit the US and Turkey. Now, in order to obtain that corridor, Artsakh had to be surrendered and Russia ‘expelled’ from the region – which he is now implementing step by step.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Russia would unilaterally suspend or cancel its agreements with Armenia on gas, oil products, and rough diamonds if Armenia’s EU integration process continues.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan has published a post titled “Reaction in the logic of ‘class’.”

“Today, starting from a certain moment of the holiday, I have been receiving the same question from numerous journalists: have you heard the Prime Minister’s statement and what will your response be?

Since at that moment we were participating in the celebrations dedicated to the day in Aparan, I promised to listen and respond later. I listened and, honestly, a simple human desire arose in me: to have a prime minister in the near future whose formulations allow for a restrained and substantive response, debate, arguments, and counterarguments.

And now I am asking my fellow journalists: what should I respond to Nikol Pashinyan’s two-minute monologue today? Can you suggest good options? I am not against it.

We are talking about the program, problems, solutions; he is talking about taking away, cracking down, insulting. We are talking about internal solidarity; he is calling everyone robbers, spies, thieves, and bandits. We are talking about moving the country forward; what he is proposing is the same as eight years ago: catch, jail, put in cages, etc. I feel regret that this is the reality of our time,” Tonoyan noted.
</yandex:full-text>

                                <yandex:full-text>
Russian gas concessions provided to Armenia constitute assistance to the Armenian people at Russia’s expense, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“Of course, the concessions Armenians receive always come at someone’s expense. They do not come from heaven – they are provided by the Russian Federation. The Armenian people are a fraternal people to us. Armenia has always been and will remain a brotherly country. But this comes at our expense, and we must call things by their proper names. This is our assistance to the Armenian people,” Peskov said.
</yandex:full-text>

According to Ishkhanyan, Azerbaijani officials hinted them they would remain in Baku for as long as the Armenian authorities wished.

“We were surprised – how could it be that our own authorities do not want us to return? Unfortunately, current political developments leave little room for any other conclusion. That is the reality,” Ishkhanyan said.

Despite everything, the former speaker stressed that neither their principles, nor common sense, nor strength of spirit, nor willpower have deserted or betrayed them.

“We will continue along our common path. Stay strong for now,” Ishkhanyan noted.
</yandex:full-text>
